Soylent Green is Car Parts

Here sits Henry Ford, believer in big ideas such as square dancing and narrow mustached fascism. Among his list of accomplishments:

  • He was the first man to reach the speed of 91.3mph in an automobile,
  • he conditioned the assembly line to be an efficient and well-oiled chain of monotony for individual workers,
  • he started a newspaper that inspired Nazis to liquidate (See this link for discussion)
  • he had a collection of Americana memorobilia that would make Cracker Barrel look as sterile as a Gap
  • He designed Stalin a factory town in Nizhny Novgorod modeled on Gary, Indiana (home of the Jackson 5)
  • He had a car built out of Soybeans, aka the hemp car for a country fair (read about it here)

“Exercise is bunk. If you are healthy, you don’t need it: if you are sick you should not take it. ”
Henry Ford

Yet of all the plastic cars ever designed, produced and advertised and then later airbrushed to remove any capitalist sleekness, surely the Trabant rules the category.
