be careful where you clique
I’m not going to beat around the bush, I miss Yugoslavia. They had incredible songs, a fearless leader, and a monopoly on the world’s production of Vegeta.
For now, i’d just like to nostalgically nod at the architecture that the Yugo years left behind. I admit there’s still plenty of brutalism poking through in the old cities, along with a junkyard assortment of oxidized factories spewed across ‘the nature’.
I can’t help but note that a lot of the construction and design of the period share a common thread- their overt and unnecessary complexity. As I see it, the three pillars of Yugoslavian structuralism are listed here:
“Make it complicated,
Make it shades of brown
Make it so that any future addition will appear as logical as the original”
Here’s to the collective vision that once made a nation state,
and that same vision
now lying latent under new management
breathing air conditioned dreams
from external units that it never knew
it was always waiting for.
I leave you in the safe hands of Jesse Jackson
who is already holding hands with Slobodon and Rod Blagojevich. Amen!
